NEW Hemel Hempstead Crematorium - Latest Update: July 2023

West Herts Crematorium Joint Committee is delighted to announce the completion of the new sister crematorium in Hemel Hempstead, which will be open to the public in a few months.

The new crematorium building has a chapel that can accommodate 140 people, along with spaces for congregation, cremation, administration, staff, and memorial services. Thanks to the asymmetrical layout and catafalque, the chapel creates a sense of intimacy regardless of the number of people attending a service, and also benefits from a "Protected View" that allows natural light, complete privacy and overlooks the surrounding landscape. There is a separate pavilion with memorial facilities in the building.

Extensive landscaping, such as car parks, memorial gardens, woodland areas, and meadows with mown grass paths, and the Porte cochere offering a covered entrance to the chapel, are also part of the development.

A lot of thought has been put into creating an atmosphere of calm and tranquillity by using the surrounding environment and architectural elements. Our focus was also to ensure there was clear circulation for visitors to move around easily, avoiding mourners at ongoing funeral services.

The West Herts Crematorium Joint Committee is pleased to invite residents and community members to attend two open days to explore the new Hemel Hempstead Crematorium and its services before its official opening in the coming months.

One of the primary goals of the new crematorium is to offer an expanded capacity for the west Hertfordshire region, ensuring that residents have access to two exceptional facilities in which to say goodbye to their loved ones. With longer service times and extensive media choices, the facility aims to provide the community with a peaceful environment for families to pay their final respects.

All residents and interested parties are invited to join this unique opportunity to witness the dedication and care that has gone into creating this facility, which has been designed to meet the funeral needs of the community. There will be a guided tour of the entire site and the opportunity to learn about the services provided.
